Senior Leader Bob Elliott, on behalf of the millions of Canadians involved in sport in Canada and the 60+ national organizations who are part of the Sport Matters Group, has recently sent a letter to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's (CBC) President/CEO Hubert Lacroix in regards to the recent budget cuts to the CBC and the possible side effects for the network's coverage of amateur sport.
The letter (available at www.sportmatters.ca) seeks to remind Mr. Lacroix of the symbiotic value of sport coverage to the CBC network, the sport community and Canadians from coast to coast. SMG has asked for Mr. Lacroix to confirm or deny planned cancellation of Sports Weekend or reductions of amateur sport coverage in the years to come. We believe that we deserve to know, specifically, how the CBC plans to move forward on this topic.
Next Steps - Get Involved!
SMG is planning some potential next steps on this issue depending on the response from Mr. Lacroix. (or lack thereof)
