FRIENDS of Canadian Broadcasting - Privacy & Other Policies

Introduction

FRIENDS of Canadian Broadcasting respects the privacy of its supporters and other Canadians who visit our web site or receive our mailings. To support this commitment, we have adopted the following privacy policy which we invite you to review. Please note that this policy governs your use of this site. FRIENDS may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The most current version will be posted at www.friends.ca/privacy.

Collection and Use of Personal Information

Personal information such as your name, postal address, e-mail address, and telephone and fax numbers is collected in order for FRIENDS to communicate with supporters and potential supporters by mail, telephone or e-mail for purposes that include fundraising, updating you on our activities and developments in Canadian broadcasting, and involving you in advocacy initiatives. Financial information such as banking or credit card information is collected in order to process one-time or ongoing contributions. If you contact us, we may keep a record of that correspondence. We will ask you for personal information when you subscribe to our e-mail mailing list, take part in a fax or e-mail campaign, or when you report a problem with this site. We may also occasionally ask you to complete surveys that we use for research. Personal information collected in submissions to The Dalton Camp Award is used to communicate with entrants and identify and notify winners. If you are not an existing supporter, we may obtain your personal information from an organization that has obtained your consent to share your information with other organizations, in which case the purposes for which your information was collected by that organization will continue to apply.

FRIENDS discloses personal information to third parties such as financial institutions and other third party contractors for the purposes of processing contributions, maintaining internal records, and communicating with you. To support FRIENDS' ongoing effort to advance our cause by attracting new supporters, we occasionally share postal contact information (never financial information or your e-mail address) on a selective basis with other compatible organizations which may communicate with you regarding membership, services or products, unless you withheld your permission for us to do so at the time we originally collected your information, or you subsequently advised us that you did not wish your contact information shared with others. We will otherwise release personal information only with your express consent, unless releasing such information is required by law or we have reason to believe that disclosing such information is necessary to contact or bring legal action against someone who may be causing injury to or interference with FRIENDS' rights or property, FRIENDS supporters, or anyone else that could be harmed by such activities. Where FRIENDS releases your personal information to third parties, FRIENDS first requires them to agree to use such personal information in accordance with this Privacy Policy and Canadian privacy laws.

You hereby consent that FRIENDS may collect, use, store, maintain, transfer, and remove your personal information in accordance with this Privacy Policy. If you prefer that we not use or disclose your information for any or all of the purposes specified in this Privacy Policy or at the time of collection, you may notify us at any time. In particular, FRIENDS will honour all requests not to disclose personal information to other organizations, whether made at the time the information is provided or subsequently, and will promptly remove your name from our e-mail or postal mailing lists upon request. If you do not notify us, we will consider you to have consented to our continued use and disclosure of your information for the specified purposes.
