Federal Budget Flatlines CBC Funding for 2002/3

Dec 10, 2001

There will be no change to Ottawa's support for the CBC in the coming year. Finance Minister Paul Martin made the announcement in his budget released on Monday, December 10th. Although inflation has been relatively modest over the past year, the decision to freeze CBC funding represents a small cut to the effective spending power of the CBC's parliamentary allocation.

Looking ahead, the Government intends to cut $60 million from the CBC's budget in the following year – fiscal 2003/4.

Funding for the Canadian Television Fund was extended for one more year – with $100 million designated for the production of Canadian content for television.
