Overview
COMPAS polled 400 adults in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and PEI, six weeks after changes to the CBC, to measure residents’ attitudes toward reduced local news coverage. Major findings include:
- Opinions on the issue are decided: significant proportions find the new coverage “very inadequate” or “totally inadequate,” rather than simply “inadequate.”
- Residents blame the federal government and the CBC in equal measure for the reduction in programming.
- The decision to cut suppertime news programs may be undermining support for the federal Liberal Party
