Dear Dalton:
In advance of your government’s first Budget, I write on behalf of Friends’ Steering Committee to urge your government to maintain TVOntario as Ontario’s educational public broadcaster.
TVOntario is an important component of Ontario’s educational strategy. Two-thirds of its programs are directed towards children and youth in the K-to-12 system. Its contribution to adult education, including civic education, is outstanding and strongly appreciated by a wide cross-section of the population.
As evidence of this appreciation, we have commissioned a public opinion survey from Ipsos-Reid which measured the views of a representative crosssection of Ontarians last week. I’m attaching a copy. Please note that 76% of Ontarians oppose selling TVOntario to a private broadcaster.
Ontarians believe that TVOntario is a jewel in our education system. We urge you to use your influence to preserve and strengthen its service to the people of Ontario.
Cordially,
Ian Morrison
Spokesperson
