Rogers seeks approval to add Italian network

Rogers Communications Inc. is trying once again to get federal approval to add Italy's state broadcaster to its list of digital services in Canada, the company announced yesterday. Rogers' application to make RAI International available to its subscribers was denied last July by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission, saying the Italian station overlapped with a similar service already offered in Canada by Telelatino. But in December, the CRTC adopted new policies intended to make it easier for broadcasters from other countries to offer their programming to digital subscribers in Canada in languages other than French and English. That opened the door for Rogers to apply once again to add RAI to its lineup. RCI.NV.B (TSX) rose 44 cents to $34.35. CP
