Canwest Global Communications Corp. said Wednesday it has been granted an extension of creditor-protection status until Nov. 5. The broadcaster has had its protection under Canada's Companies' Creditor Arrangement Act extended several times since initially being granted protection Oct. 6 last year. Canwest has a deal in place to be bought by Shaw Communications Inc. for $2 billion. CRTC hearings on the matter are scheduled to start Sept. 20.
