Not a friend of new CBC president by Patricia Best

The daggers are out in a war of words between, uh, friends. Ian Morrison, whose title is "spokesperson" for the Friends of Canadian Broadcasting (FCB), is attacking the Nov. 5 appointment of Montreal businessman Hubert Lacroix as the Corp's new president.
In a deftly written Nov. 11 fundraising letter, Mr. Morrison raises objections to Mr. Lacroix in the context of an alleged hidden agenda of Prime Minister Stephen Harper's to undermine the public broadcaster. Mr. Morrison points to two $1,000 donations made to the Conservative Party and accuses Mr. Lacroix of a lack of experience in running a broadcaster.
Mr. Lacroix is being vigorously defended by the broadcaster's PR machine, which has put the word out that Mr. Harper had hardly anything at all to do with the appointment, although there is some nodding in the direction of Tory insider Tom Long as a helping hand.
CBC vice-president of communications Bill Chambers responded to Mr. Morrison's letter by firing off a lengthy one of his own to supporters of FCB. In it he says, "Mr. Morrison implies an affiliation between Prime Minister Harper and Mr. Lacroix which simply does not exist," adding that Mr. Lacroix has never met, never talked on the phone to and only once was at the same public event as Mr. Harper.
Lambasting Mr. Morrison for attacking Mr. Lacroix's reputation, Mr. Chambers disputes the allegations, noting that Mr. Lacroix made political donations to other parties and their candidates and that he was brought into Telemedia Communications to help with its broadcasting growth.
