Peter Mansbridge receives speaking fees from oil industry group

Feb 27, 2014

The CBC's Chief Correspondent Peter Mansbridge has received payment for speaking at an event organized by the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (CAPP). Questions about possible conflict of interest and ethics were raised when CBC President Hubert Lacroix took questions yesterday from the Senate Communications committee in Ottawa.

We requested interviews with Peter Mansbridge and Rex Murphy today. They weren't available for an interview. Neither was CBC's editor-in-chief Jennifer McGuire. But we're hoping to speak with her next month, once she's completed her review of CBC's policy.

Today, Mansbridge responded to the ethical concerns in a blog post. This follows an earlier blog post by CBC News Editor in Chief Jennifer McGuire in response to similar questions regarding Cross-Country Checkup host Rex Murphy. Former CBC radio chief journalist and NPR ombudsman, Jeffrey Dvorkin talks to Laura Lynch.
