Cast members from Trailer Park Boys, Little Mosque on the Prairie, ReGenesis and other hit TV shows will appear on Parliament Hill in support of the Canadian Television Fund (CTF) today.
The CTF will give the opening presentation at the CRTC public hearings examining the future structure of the organization.
On Parliament Hill this evening, MPs and Senators are to meet Canadian television stars from shows including: Little Mosque on the Prairie, Trailer Park Boys, Robson Arms, This is Daniel Cook, Murdoch Mysteries, Intelligence, ReGenesis, Les soeurs Elliot, Annie et ses hommes, Lance et compte, Casino and more.
"Ricky" and "Julian" will join actors Wendy Crewson, Peter Outerbridge, Daniel Cook, and Quebec stars Sylvie Léonard, Raymond Bouchard, Raymond Legault and many more at a special reception to celebrate Canadian television in Room 200 West Block, from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, February 4th.
The CTF faced hard times last year as two major cable companies suspended their payments, contrary to obligations under CRTC regulations resisting calls to commit five per cent of their revenues to the $288-million fund every year.
Jim Shaw, CEO of Shaw Communications, told the fund last year his company would hold back about $56 million per year. Quebecor's Videotron soon said it would also withhold contributions.
Both companies resumed payments until a CRTC task force into the fund could complete its work. The public hearings today mark the final steps in that review.
