Dear Friend,

The CBC has recently announced a plan to expand local services broadcast by its radio station in Kelowna to provide several hours daily, at least on weekdays, and possibly on weekends as well, of locally produced and locally focused CBC Radio One programming in a coverage area that includes Kelowna, Kamloops, the Okanagan and Shuswap. It's part of a welcome initiative to rectify a longstanding gap in CBC radio's local availability to Canadians in and around some fifteen cities.

We understand that CBC's proposal projects the operating cost for all these new stations taken together to be about $25 million each year on top of an initial capital cost of $25 million for the transmitters and studio equipment. The funds that CBC is seeking are a special supplementary amount and would not take away from what is available for national programming.

I would like to invite you to enlist the active support and involvement of your local Member of Parliament for the proposed expansion of local service provided by the CBC Radio station in Kelowna. To do this, just click the link below, type in your name, address and postal code, and FRIENDS' e-action system will provide you with a sample letter addressed to your MP.

I strongly suggest that you personalize this letter with your own comments. Our past experience demonstrates that your letter will be taken more seriously if you do this, particularly at the beginning of your letter.

Our e-action system will send you an email copy of your letter and will deliver the original to your MP's constituency office by fax - automatically and at no cost to you.

This only takes a few moments and it will help to bring to residents of Kelowna, Kamloops and surrounding areas of the Okanagan and Shuswap CBC Radio local services that millions of Canadians living elsewhere take for granted as taxpayers and citizens.
