Re: PN CRTC 1999-190: Application 199907482 - Crossroads Television

The applicant is seeking an amendment to a condition of licence which would extend to midnight the evening hours during which Crossroads is required to broadcast balanced programming.  Approval of this application would have the effect of permitting Crossroads to reduce its balanced programming commitment to five hours weekly from the present twelve hours during the 6 pm to 11 pm peak viewing period specified in its licence conditions (Decision CRTC 98-123).

FRIENDS opposes this application because its approval would undermine the intent of the Commission's religious broadcasting policy (PN CRTC 1993-78) as expressed in Crossroads' licence just two years ago and in the Commission's denial of a previous Crossroads application (Decision CRTC 96-773).

Yours sincerely,

Ian Morrison
Spokesperson
