CBC President Gets a Passing Grade

Nov 11, 2004

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Ottawa – Robert Rabinovitch has earned a passing grade as President of the CBC, according to the broadcast watchdog Friends of Canadian Broadcasting.

Overall, Friends has awarded him a mark of C-, based on a review of Mr. Rabinovitch’s performance over the last five years in a number of areas including CBC funding, regional programming, Canadian content, and CBC Radio.

Mr. Rabinovitch’s re-appointment for a second term of 3 years has been proposed by the Prime Minister, who has asked the House of Commons Heritage Committee to review this idea and endorse or reject it.  Mr. Rabinovitch will be questioned by members of the Heritage Committee on Monday, November 15, his fifth anniversary as CBC President.

“Parliamentarians and Canadians share our concern about the CBC President’s vision of and commitment to regional programming,” says Ian Morrison, Friends’ spokesperson.
