Dalton Camp Award Winners to be Announced

Ottawa - The first winners of the Dalton Camp Award will be announced on Friday, June 6, 2003.

The Award will be given to three Canadians for their original essays on the link between democratic values and the quality of the media in Canada. The identities of the winners will be made public by Canada Newswire release on Friday, June 6, at 8:00 a.m. (EDT) and their winning submissions will be posted on the website of Friends of Canadian Broadcasting at www.friendscb.ca

Our three winning authors live in St. John's, Newfoundland, Toronto, Ontario and Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Sponsored by the Friends of Canadian Broadcasting, the Award is named in honour of distinguished political commentator Dalton Camp. Each award consists of a prize of $5,000 as well as a bronze cast medal by renowned Canadian sculptress Dora de Pédèry-Hunt.

A special event where the winners will receive their Award will take place at the Banff Television Festival at 11:00 a.m. local time, Monday, June 9, in the Theatre of the Fairmont Banff Springs Conference Centre.

Friends of Canadian Broadcasting is a Canada-wide watchdog organization supported by 60,000 households whose mission is to defend and enhance the quality and quantity of Canadian programming in the Canadian audio-visual system.
