Saint Johner Kurt Peacock is one of two Maritimers who have won the 2005 Dalton Camp Award.
The other award winner was Megan Wennberg of Halifax. Both Mr. Peacock and Ms. Wennberg were presented with their awards last week at the Banff World Television Festival.
Mr. Peacock's winning essay lamented the tendency of national media outlets to only cover big city news.
Ms. Wennberg's essay covered the founding and eventual sale of Saint John independent newspaper here. Her essay critiqued the sale of the small newspaper to Brunswick News in 2004, arguing the sale limited media diversity.
Each award consists of a cash prize of $5,000 as well as a bronze cast medal by Canadian sculptress Dora De Pédery-Hunt.
The Friends of Canadian Broadcasting created the Dalton Camp Awards in 2002 in memory of the late Dalton Camp, a distinguished commentator on Canadian public affairs.
